A bunch of Open Seminary students sat enthralled as she told us the story of how her life was changed by a chance encounter with a black couple who came to her house for tea. Angela openly admits that she was as racist as many other white South Africans in the mid-80’s – she had never contemplated the thought of a black person in her home let alone “sitting on my furniture!” She struggled to get through the event as graciously as possible, but never expected her black visitor to turn to her and say, “In our culture, it is customary that now I have had tea in your home, you must come and have tea in mine.” She was put on the spot – it was difficult to refuse, [Read more...]
